What's on in 2012?
Cardiff Live Music Club holds two events every month: a show on the 2nd Tuesday of each month presented by a professional artist, and a hands-on keyboard workshop group on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (see the Keyboard Group page). Concerts start at 7.30pm (7.00pm to hear the welcome player) and tickets cost £8 (£5 for members and £2 for juniors). Membership is available at £10 per annum, and entitles the member to receive bi-monthly newsletters as well as concessionary tickets.
January 10th 2012 - 7.30pm
Ben Scott-Hyde, a new face
This is Ben's first visit to Cardiff, and one to which we're looking forward. He's been playing widely at other venues throughout the UK since his debut in 2009. He shares his life with his girlfriend, 5 children, dogs cat and kittens, so touring (he says) gives him a bit of a rest! Mentored by the ever-popular Brett Wales, Ben also performs on Wersi.
Welcome player: Geoff Howells.
February 14th 2012 - 7.30pm
Brian Hazelby. Can you feel the love tonight?
We always love an evening with Brian, who alternates between keyboards and piano, tells an anecdote or two and gives us a satisfying helping of very good music. Brian has played with the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, round the clubs and then as resident pianist with the Geraldo London Orchestra in Bermuda. So kick off your shoes, lean back in your seat and relax in his highly professional hands!
Welcome player: Prof. Malcolm Mason with collection for Cancer Research.
March 13th 2012 - 7.30pm
Ian House - young yet accomplished
Ian has packed so much into his young life that it's amazing! Still only 22, he has already toured in Europe and the USA, as well as being consulted regularly on technical matters involving keyboards, computers and web design. As a teenager, he worked as a demonstrator for Roland UK and currently works as a freelance product specialist for Yamaha. He now brings his surprising depth of maturity to performances on Yamaha keyboards.
Welcome player: Tony Kerr.
April 10th 2012 - 7.30pm
Ryan Edwards - a chip off the sparkling block!
A pupil of the sequinned Tim Flint, Ryan began touring as a professional when he was just 18. Now in his early 30s, he is as busy as ever. He understands the need to awaken new interest in his instrument, especially in his generation, by appealing to both traditional and modern tastes. In his spare time Ryan is a keen sports enthusiast, regularly playing snooker, golf, running, walking, swimming and generally keeping fit. He also enjoys going to local and national concerts and to the theatre as much as possible.
Welcome player: Derek Gorringe
May 8th 2012 - 7.30pm
Annual General Meeting
Music from Glenda Clwyd on harp.
June 12 2012 - 7.30pm
Brett Wales and his Wall of Sound
Amongst the most popular performers on the concert circuit these days is Brett Wales. He sports an enormous instrument and a sound to match. His arrangements are indistinguishable from the originals, be it James Last, Klaus Wunderlich, Strauss waltzes or popular ballads. So it's an easy night all round - just sit back and soak up the sounds of yesterday and today, faultlessly reproduced by this personable young man. Wales in Wales.
Welcome players: Eve Williams and Diane Frayling. Wear red, white or blue - prize for the best dressed!
July 10th 2012 - 7.30pm
Daniel Watt hot from the States
Daniel appears more on the other side of the Atlantic than in the UK these days, so grab your chance to see him now! Northamptonshire-based Daniel is that rare mix of technical wizardry and artistic discretion. His show is accompanied by live video which he controls as he goes for some truly amazing effects! If we're lucky, he may sing a song or two - his beautiful voice is equally suited to ballads and show numbers.
August 14th 2012 - 7.30pm
Richard Bower and his famous Twin Set
Richard used to be an organist. Then he became a player of single keyboards. Now he's strapped two keyboards together with a pedal board - his Twin Set - and it's a pearl, even if it might as well be an organ! He produces some remarkably haunting sounds - Irish and Northumbrian pipes, sumptuous clarinet solos and big band numbers. Lots of happy sounds, but also bring a hanky!
September 11th 2012 - 7.30pm
The Andrew Nix and Tony Stace Duo
Brace yourself for an evening of mirth and melody. On their own they were titifilarious enough, but put them together and the tickling stick is out with a vengeance! After a night of great music and awesome gags, you'll be going home saying "How tickled I am, missis!"
October 9th 2012 - 7.30pm
David Harrild - a Cardiff first
Here is a man you will want to hear a great deal more of! A recent promoter said " an excellent variation of music, interspersed with a little humour throughout...songs from the shows, music from the movies, Big Band, country, ballads, jazz, orchestral, classical and opera...it would have been difficult to improve upon the variety...much to everyone’s delight ”.
November 13th 2012 - 7.30pm
Chris Stanbury and his Amazing Stagea
Chris is one of only two performers using the staggering Stagea digital orchestra on tour. He's visited us with it before and we can't, quite simply, wait for more. Despite his youth, Chris is a professor at the London College of Music and his abilities shine through along with a fresh approach to his programme. Chris is making quite a name for himself as a player of Strauss.
December 11th 2012 - 7.30pm
Byron Jones, the Welsh Wizard
Our very good friend Byron, who has hosted us in style at his Bristol installation, comes to us for a change! His return trip to his homeland will be marked by his usual relaxed humour and performances of well-loved melodies, with an accent (no doubt) on Ivor Novello. So here we are at Christmas once again - we hope this rounds off a good year in great style for you!
